School complex and sports centre

Paris, France

We decided to start from the park and the notion of the base as the foundation of the project.

Working in horizontal layers, in reference to the superposition of different soils, the base (ground floor, r+1) becomes the Ehpad, which itself becomes a vertical extension of the park. The same “writing” underlines the fact that the project is rooted in the idea of a ground (that of the park, of the city) that is transformed into several.

The dwellings rise above it, like a linear, suspended element, managing the skyline and introducing an undulating movement depending on the views and the neighbourhood. Sculpted into the mass, its expressiveness echoes the base and the nursing home, which thus become complementary and indissociable, and which, in their differences, assert a great unity.

Working on the skyline allows variations to be introduced in the silhouette against the sky, as well as multiplying the different ways in which the roofs can be used. In this way, it offers a vision of different scales to the surrounding residents, and a variety of places for the building’s users. The project thus plays on the idea of movement, background and multiplicity.

In the end, our project was built to echo the future landscape. It reveals and brings together the different elements that make up the site. It becomes a ’building’ through its programme, developed through a rational and very precise approach to use. This staging of a chronology of private and collective life in all the dimensions of the project gives rise to a building born of the hybridisation of all the urban and programmatic parameters.
